NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30- Security was Tuesday tightened in areas around Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, where President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to deliver his 8th State of the Nation Address to a Joint Sitting of Parliament as from 2 pm.
Police said they may redirect some vehicles and close roads near Parliament then and want motorists to if possible use alternative routes.
This will be the eighth address before president Kenyatta’s 10-year term in office expires.
The president will highlight his achievements so far and give the way forward.
It is expected the President will highlight measures his government has adopted to cushion Kenyans from a frail economy, hard hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The President is also set to talk about the security issues facing Keny and the region and food security, amidst a persisting drought.
On 8 September 2021, President Kenyatta officially declared drought in parts of Kenya a national disaster.
Affected households have experienced a series of shocks in recent years in addition to drought conditions, including a desert locust invasion and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
