NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30- An activist has moved to court, seeking to compel the court to order Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti to arrest businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.
He argues Wanjigi, a presidential hopeful with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) should be arrested for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
The DCI has been sentenced to a four-month sentence for failing to return the confiscated weapons to Wanjigi. The High Court has since declined to lift the sentence.
Memba Ocharo alleges that Wanjigi, a former senior police reservist, is a danger to the members of the public due to the number of guns in his possession.
Through Lawyer Dunstan Omari, Ocharo argues that Wanjigi poses a grave danger and risk to the members of the public as no one citizen should have in their custody 688 ammunitions and about 11 guns.
“Long after the interested party was dismissed from employment with the Police Service for misuse of firearms in threatening and intimidating members of the public, he has nonetheless been a licensed firearms holder until January 30, 2018 when the licensing board revoked his firearms Certificate,” the application reads.
Ocharo is apprehensive that Wanjigi will soon receive the firearms and ammunition that were initially confiscated by the firearms licensing board.
