KISUMU, Kenya, Dec 8- Police are investigating an incident in which a terror suspect killed a man and woman, in a suicide bomb mission in the Katito area, Kisumu County.
The man has been on the radar of anti-terror police and was working in a quarry in the area. Police identified him as John Odhiambo Ondiek alias Pope.
He is said to have stormed the home of Petro Onyango and Mary Otieno on Tuesday while wired with an improvised explosive devise. The detonation resulted in the death of two people.
The incident occurred Tuesday at around 10pm.
According to an incident report seen by Shahidi News, their daughter Nancy Aoko sustained injuries.
“He first started to question them on things they did not understand,” police said.
The incident that indicates the spread of terror cells to other regions other than the traditional ones has left security apparatus in the area on high alert, ahead of the festive season.
The attacker, an orphan, and class 5 dropout is said to have left home more than 5 years ago for Mombasa where he joined al-Shabaab and later came back
Anti-terror police have been sent to the area to investigate the incident.
He is said to have attempted to kill his girlfriend in December last year, still within the same area, after a quarrel.
Nyanza police boss Karanja Muiruri said detectives were treating the incident as an act of terrorism.
