BARINGO,Kenya, Dec, 13 -A contingent of police officers has been deployed to Kabartonjo area in Baringo county after suspected bandits shot and killed a police officer.
This is the latest incident involving cattle rustling in the area according to preliminary reports.
The officer identified as David Omondi was among officers tracking down a gang that had stolen animals from villages on Sunday during the Jamhuri Day celebrations when he was ambushed and killed.
The deceased’s colleagues attempt to neutralize the bandits provide futile as a gun battle ensued for allowing them to escape the area with scores of livestock.
Reinforcements were deployed to the area however the bandits had already fled into the wilderness.
An operation to hunt them down is ongoing.
