NAIROBI,Kenya, Dec, 19 – Hundreds of traders Sunday morning were left at a loss after property of unknown value was destroyed in an inferno at the Gikomba market.
Efforts to salvage property for some traders proved futile as it had been destroyed beyond recovery.
This is the latest incident involving a fire in Gikomba market in as many months.
Just last month, a similar inside was reported in the area with traders urging government to tame the perennial fires.
Despite police launching a probe on the matter, no one was arrested in the suspected arson case.
The government has promised to instal CCTV cameras in the market in a bid to contain the situation and enhance security.
Plans are also underway to upgrade the market though this according to traders has taken longer than expected.
A committee tasked wth ensuring security is upgraded at the market say CCTV cameras will be installed soon.
