NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 25- Deputy President William Ruto’s digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has been taken to the Intensive Care Unit, after developing complications.

Itumbi was moved to ICU on Saturday, his family and friends, said after he developed pneumonia-related complications.

Itumbi had been left in the cold while naked, after hours of torture on Thursday.

According to Martin Gitau and Josiah Murigu, his close friends, the vocal supporter of the Deputy President developed difficulties in breathing, prompting his admission to ICU.

He is receiving medication at the Nairobi West Hospital. He suffered fractured legs, as well as his left arm.

“X-ray shows signs of pneumonia. Say a prayer for him,” said Gitau.

Murigu said Itumbi was left in the cold for a long which affected him.

Itumbi was abducted on Thursday and tortured for hours before he was abandoned in the Lucky Summer area in Kasarani.

When a taxi driver rescued him, he was all naked and with multiple injuries on his body.

Police are yet to arrest or establish the motive of the attack, which has been condemned by human rights organizations like Amnesty International-Kenya and Kenya Human Rights Commission.

The Amnesty International-Kenya has called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to probe the incident and bring those found culpable to book.

I'm appalled by the abduction & brutal torture of my friend & one of Kenya's best known media personalities, Dennis Itumbi. Kenyans – who've given refuge to the persecuted of our region – can, & should, do better than copy the worst & most obnoxious thugs in our EA neighborhood. pic.twitter.com/CQBIxUKHk1

He had injuries on most of his body parts when he was found. His left eye was bleeding.

According to Itumbi’s brother, David the people who abducted and beat him up claimed to be police officers.

Police headquarters have since denied having a role in the despicable act.

“My brother has been badly beaten. We thank God that he is alive. On his own account, he was arrested by police and beaten and tortured. This is the state we found him in,” he said on Thursday night after Itumbi was found.

His abductors changed to different cars as they drove around with him.

The abductors had handcuffed him from behind and tied his legs with a rope.

The men confiscated his mobile phone during the 3 pm incident.

Itumbi is known for his Hustlers Nation Investigative Bureau- a platform he uses to root for DP Ruto while exposing ‘facts’.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has linked the state to the attack, saying he was being targeted for his relentless support for the Deputy President.

According to his friends, Itumbi has been living in fear and more so after the August incident, when he claimed to have been shot at while driving in Garden estate.

He said to have heard gunshots being fired towards his car. The matter was reported at the Kasarani police station.
