SAMBURU, Kenya, Dec 25- Police in the Maralal area of Samburu County have launched a manhunt for a group of bandits who attacked residents of Pura village.
The attackers are said to have stolen property worth an unknown amount and killed one police officer who was part of a rescue team.
Samburu police commander Thomas Ngewa also said that the officer in charge of the Maralal police station was injured in the exchange of fire, during the attack.
Police sirens rent the air, in the dead of the night in Maralal town as officers rushed one of their commanding officers to the Samburu County Referral hospital.
The Maralal OCS was rushed into a theatre with gunshot wounds that took the life of one of his officers.
“There was a shoot-out that also led to the killing of a 60-year-old man,” the County Commander said. Police say the killing of the elderly man could have been a retaliatory attack after a herder from a neighbouring village was killed in Pura market three weeks ago.
With an officer dead and another fighting for his life in hospital, senior police commanders in the area say that they are putting all their resources into searching for the culprits.
