NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 4- Paleoanthropologist and former Head of Public Service Dr. Richard Leakey was on Monday afternoon buried on a hill near his home.
His family said Dr. Leakey was buried on a hill along the Rift Valley in line with his wishes.
The family said in keeping with Richard’s wishes, they interred his body at a place of his choosing, on his favourite ridge “overlooking the majestic Rift Valley that he so loved.”
His daughter Samira Leakey advised members of the public against condolence visits due to Leakey’s widow, Meave’s age, in line with the government’s COVID-19 containment protocols.
Members of the public are further urged not to send the family flowers, but instead, share their condolence messages at the offices of the National Museum and the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) where a condolence book has been provided.
“Tributes commemorating Richard can also be left online on the ForeverMissed memorial site,” the family added.
Dr. Leakey, a globally celebrated conservationist died Sunday. He was aged 77.
