NAIROBI,Kenya, Jan, 8 – Geoffrey Mugini is accused of defrauding an M-pesa agent Sh 87,000 after duping her into assisting him with a transaction query.
The accused who was arraigned before resident magistrate William Tullel at the Kibera Law Courts is said to have needed assistance to conduct a reverse transaction.
According to court documents, Mugini is said to have initially given the victim, Ann Nyawira, his phone telling her to speak to an unidentified person who would guide her through the process of reversing the transaction.
The victim is said to have beentold to dial certain numbers not realising that money was being transferred from her account to Mugini’s phone.
The incident is said to have occurred on three different transactions.
Nyawira upon realising that she had just been duped immediately notified the area chief.
The accused was shortly after arrested after area police were notified.
Police are meanwhile pursuing other suspects said to have been working with the accused.
Mugini denied the charges and was released on a Sh100,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000.
The case will be mentioned on January 25,2022.
