BARINGO,Kenya, Jan, 12 – 60 year-old Haron Cherono has been slapped with a life sentence after he was found guilty of defiling a grade three learner, resulting in her death in Baringo county.
The accused who was presented before Chief Magistrate Judy Wanjala, was found guilty of manslaughter according to section 205 of the penal code.
Court documents revealed that the 10-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at Sunrise Children’s home in Kabarnet on July 24, 2021.
The accused is said to have been the victim’s guardian and had molested her for a period of three years without anyone learning of his despicable acts.
She was initially hospitalized at Baringo County Referral Hospital before being referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret,Uasin Gishu county.
Doctors said that she had suffered severe injuries on her private parts, as well as internal organs including her kidneys.
Government pathologist Dr Wangare Wambugu who conducted the postmortem examination on the deceased noted that the minor had died due to renal dysfunction resulting from sexual assault.
