NAIROBI,Kenya, Jan, 25 – Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has appealed to political leaders from the Mt Kenya region to form a united front in order to strike a deal with other political coalitions as equals instead of ‘begging’ to be given the presidential running mate slot ahead of the August 9,2022 polls.
Muturi hit out at some leaders from the central Kenya region who have been complaining that the new found pact between Deputy President William Ruto and ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi could possibly deny the region the running mate position under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
“How timid can leaders be to go begging for the number two position as if this whole region cannot produce one leader,’ Posed Muturi.
Muturi was addressing grassroots political leaders at a Limuru hotel where they endorsed him as the presidential flag bearer for the Democratic Party.
Responding to questions from the press, Muturi said he had no issue against the UDA-ANC pact, but advised Mt Kenya leaders to forge their own unity and stop subjecting themselves to, “plans made elsewhere.”
“Their unity, UDA and ANC is their own business, let’s organise our own unity in Mt Kenya and negotiate our future as one ,” he said.
The Democratic Party is expected to hold its National Delegates Conference on February 21,2022 where it is expected to endorse the speaker of the National Assembly as its presidential candidate.
Muturi said he and his party are open to negotiating with any political formation, even as his primary objective remains uniting the Mt. Kenya Region.
The presidential hopeful said that he skipped the ANC convention on Sunday after he learnt that Mudavadi had not made a full disclosure of his agenda with UDA.
