NAKURU, Kenya, Jan 26- Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has fired back at President Uhuru Kenyatta, days after switching allegiance.
This is after it emerged that the President was “disappointed” in him, for dumping the One Kenya Alliance and instead, joining forces with Deputy President William Ruto.
The President is said to have made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting at State House in Nairobi, where he met a section of leaders from the Western Kenya region.
In a bare-knuckle rejoinder, Mudavadi who had joined DP Ruto for a series of rallies in Eldama Ravine and eventually Nakuru town on Wednesday, hit back at the President, while tearing on his legacy.
“Mr. President, you have a right to be disappointed with me. But, I want to tell you: Kenyans are even more disappointed in you. They are hungry, they are tired. Let’s not lie to each other,” the ANC boss said amidst cheers.
He said neither the President nor his former colleagues at OKA, can dictate to him whom he should be friends with or not.
Though receiving a less political verbal attack, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has also ditched OKA the same day as Mudavadi. It all happened over the weekend during an ANC national delegation at the Bomas of Kenya, in Nairobi.
DP Ruto, Mudavadi, and Wetangula are said to be in the process of forming a coalition, to face President Kenyatta’s backed Azimio la Umoja movement.
The Azimio movement is fronting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the most suitable candidate to succeed President Kenyatta in the August 9 polls.
“The transition period is a very precarious time in a country. I ask all Kenyans to be careful about who they will elect on August 9th. Fellow Kenyans, be a very dedicated civil servant and make the right choice,” Mudavadi said.
He said ANC and UDA had agreed on ideals and will work together towards promoting development and democracy in Kenya.
“We want to change Kenya, democracy to be enshrined and have the freedom of choosing friends and not be forced to support projects,” he said.
“We will not accept government projects in politics. There are so many stalled government projects, Azimio is another stalled project.”
Mudavadi said his ideals and those of the Deputy President, “are in tandem and that is why we have come together.”
“Kenyans are angry, Kenyans are hungry, and Kenyans are tired. Kenya first.”
The Deputy President said the newly found unity is focused on changing the “destiny of our nation.”
“This mission is unstoppable,” the Deputy President said during the public rally in Nakuru town, attended by more than 100 legislators.
He added, “We will stand together, shoulder to shoulder with millions of Kenyans to ensure all and more so the ordinary people get a fair share of their sweat.”
He said they shall resist attempts to divide Kenyans along tribal lines.
“Any temptation to take Kenya back to the ear of division, ethnicity, and hate will be defeated,” he said.
