NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 26- It is the season of politics in Kenya, and political ‘earthquakes’, in the words of Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, will be frequent.
Mudavadi recently left his political buddies for a rival, in a move that has left the country’s political landscape turned upside down.
“The earthquake was real,” the ANC boss said in a Tweet, a day after joining forces with Deputy President William Ruto over the weekend.
On this day, January 23, the One Kenya Alliance came to a near collapse, after Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula left.
It is on the same day that Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Senator Gideon Moi, who is also the KANU national chairman, had to make a quick dash out of Bomas of Kenya- after learning that DP Ruto would attend the event.
Political pundits say Mudavadi’s move has set the ball rolling and more realignments, including political betrayals, are expected ahead of the August 9 polls.
Which way Kalonzo Musyoka?
It is a question many are asking, with some like Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and his Kitui counterpart Charity Ngilu, asking him to join Azimio La Umoja movement.
The Azimio movement is rooting for Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga.
Kalonzo has remained adamant that he will not support Odinga for the presidency.
On Wednesday, Musyoka held talks with ODM presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi, in a city hotel.
It is not yet clear whether Wanjigi will join OKA as a principal, or will be the Wiper leader’s running mate.
“Loading…,” Wanjigi said in a Tweet, accompanied with a picture of him and Musyoka. Both were smiling.
Musyoka and the city businessman did not reveal the contents of their discussion.
