MAKUENI, Kenya, Jan 28- A rally to popularize the One Kenya Alliance in Makueni has exposed the Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to mockery after a majority of the residents stayed away.
Being a market day and Musyoka having dominated the politics of the region for decades, it was expected the venue would be full, but it was not that way.
After waiting for hours, hoping the crowd would gather, the Wiper leader while in the company of Senator Gideon Moi of the Kenya African National Union and presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi, drove into a largely empty ground.
While it is said crowds do not vote, this has put Musyoka on the spot, on whether he still has a grip of the 2 million votes in the Ukambani region.
None of the three Governors in the region are in OKA.
Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua, his Makueni counterpart Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, and Kitui County chief Charity Ngilu, have thrown their political weight to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backed Azimio la Umoja movement.
The movement is fronting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as their preferred candidate.
According to sources within OKA, the Kitui rally was equally not “well attended. We really struggled to have enough people for the cameras.”
“Away from the dais, there were no many people in the background. We are very concerned.”
Mutua is also seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. He is the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader.
Pundits say the Wiper leader is in a dilemma of either going to the ballot or supporting Odinga or the Kenya Kwanza alliance, whose leaders are Deputy President William Ruto, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.
Musyoka has been categorical that he will not support for a third time, the Orange Democratic Movement leader.
