MURANG’A,Kenya, Jan, 29 – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Leader Raila Odinga will be in Murang’a county to rally support for his presidential bid under the Azimio La Umoja during the August 9.2022 elections.
Odinga will seek to drum up support for one of his Azimio la Umoja agendas dubbed, ‘Azimio Mtaani Murang’a’ before conducting a political rally at the Ihura Stadium in Murang’a town.
The event is said to be monumental in the wake of the passing of the Political Parties Amendment Bill by both Houses of Parliament and the subsequent signing into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The amendments have among other provisions paved the way for the embedding into law of political coalitions making them legally binding, something that was not there before.
In effect, political parties coming together to form a coalition will fall under a Coalition Political Party and will operate under the umbrella of that coalition whose instruments will be submitted to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties within 90 days to the general election.
Murang’a is known for its fertile farming soil and good climate. Food crops such as maize, beans, sweet potatoes, arrow roots, pumpkins and bananas are grown in the region.
Tea and coffee are the County’s main cash crops.
“Odinga is expected to talk about what he will do to motivate farmers who had started losing hope as a result of lack of market for the products and assure them of his commitment to ensuring the Agriculture sector is allocated enough funds when he takes over the reigns of power from President Kenyatta,” read stamens from the ODM Party.
He is also expected to outline his 10 point agenda under the Azimio la Umoja and seek the region’s support for his agenda. Agriculture is part of Odinga’s ten point agenda.
‘Azimio La Umoja 10 Point Agenda’
The 10 measures include a Sh6,000 monthly kitty for 2 million needy families across the country. It will be under a social protection programme dubbed ‘Inua Jamii Pesa Mfukoni’.
“I want to emphasize, it is not a handout, but an investment and a foundation for a new parity change that will also trigger massive economic activity and create thousands of localized small-scale businesses and enterprises across the country,” said Odinga during the declaration of his presidential bid atakasaranib Stadium.
“This will lead to millions of jobs.”
To promote health among Kenyans, Odinga said he will introduce a programme dubbed ‘Baba Care’, that will see all Universal Health care initiatives extended to all Kenyans.
“We will ensure that each and every Kenyan has a social health insurance plan,” he said.
“Those who cannot pay, the government will pay for them, so that no Kenyan will die or suffer or lack treatment because of lack of money,” he said.
The third programme is dubbed ‘Kazi Kwa Wote’, which will be about securing the welfare of Kenyans by generating avenues for productivity through job creation programmes.
The fourth programme if elected President, he said will be about promoting women under the Uchumi Kwa Akina Mama initiative.
“This will focus on the true multipliers of our wealth in our community; our women,” he said.
This will be providing financial support to women-led businesses and “proportional representation in all government levels.”
The fifth will be ‘Hashtag Inawezekana’, which will focus on equipping “our youth with the mindset, skills, funds, and technology to enable them to innovate at par & surpass their global counterparts.”
“The youth are closer to our future than we are,” he said. “But they are exploited as fodder for bad politics. More now than ever, we need to invest and prepare our youth for the future.”
The other one will be “Waste not a Single Child” which Raila said will be an aggressive scheme to ensure that all get rightful access to quality education.”
Odinga also said he will initiate the ‘Fukuza Njaa’ programme, whose aim is to generate the agricultural bounty that Kenya has the potential to produce and also feed the hungry.
Further, he said he will start a ‘One County, One Product programme’, which will be designed to be a launchpad to a Kenya which consumes its products, exports excesses, and registers surpluses.
The plan, he said is to have all the 47 Counties “start industrializing at an unstoppable rate.”
He revealed his economic plan at the Kasarani stadium when he officially declared interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, before a mammoth crowd of supporters.
