EALA MP Florence Jematia Released On Sh1 Million Bond

BARINGO,Kenya, Feb, 4 – East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Florence Jematia is a free woman after being released on a Sh1 million bond and two sureties of a similar amount days after being arrested for alleged incitement remarks.

Appearing before  Kabarnet Resident Magistrate Nerolyne Idagwa as part of her release terms , she will now be expected to present herself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation offices in Baringo Central for the next five days from 9.am.

She was also directed to refrain from addressing any public gatherings or making an appearance in media.

The legislator has also been barred from visiting Baringo South while keeping a distance of at least 20 km radius from its boundaries.

The prosecution had sought more time to hold her in order to allow detectives conclude their investigations.

She is alleged to have evaded arrest and defied summons before finally being arrested by sleuths in Nairobi.

Appearing before Kabarnet Law Courts Resident Magistrate Nerolyne Idagwa,the EALA MP is said to have uttered reckless, incendiary and divisive comments calling on residents to raise funds in order to purchase firearms.

Her remarks are said to be tantamount to incitement to violence.

She is said to have made the remarks during a public meeting in Mochongoi, on Sunday,January, 30,2022.

In the now viral video, the legislature is seen inciting the residents and saying that the government had failed to protect residents. She is further seen mobilising for the creation of a paybill number to raise the required funds.

“We cannot continue holding peace meetings over the years without a formidable solution, yet women and children spend the night in the bushes due to displacement. We have lost more than enough people in the war-torn area and this should be stopped,” said Jematia.

“We need a paybill number now to collect funds to purchase guns. If people can afford motorcycles, then they can afford the arms as well. Local leaders should also allocate funds to the same to solve this menace if the government is (reluctant) to hear our cries,” she said.
