MARSABIT,Kenya, Feb, 15 – Police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of assailants suspects to have gunned down a police officer in Marsabit town on Monday evening.
According to preliminary reports, the officer, since identified as corporal Ahmed Mohamed Sheikh was shot at close range while walking to his home.
The officer was attached to the Dukana police station in North Horr.
The gun wielding assailants are said to have shortly after fled the scene amidst mass panic by area residents.
The motive of the killing police say remains yet to be established this amidst a wave of violence in the county between two warring communities.
Local businesses within the town were forced to close shop early amidst fears of retaliatory attacks.
The body of the deceased is being preserved at the local mortuary.
