GARISSA,Kenya, Feb, 15 – A form four student from Madogo Secondary School in Garissa county is among two others charged with the attempted murder of a Garissa Member of County Assembly on January 11,2022.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Cosmas Maundu the accused, Emily Ndunge, Josephine Mbula and Bernard Katana are alleged to have attempted to kill the MCA, Teresia Queen, after mixing her prescribed syrup medication with an unknown substance suspected to be poison.
The second accused, Mbula, is the victim’s househelp.
Defense lawyer Nelson Mandela urged the court to grant the accused favorable bail terms citing their willingness to cooperate with investigating officers.
The counsel further noted that the third accused, Ndunge, was a form four student and was set to sit for her KCSE exams. He argued that she needed time to prepare properly for the national examinations slated for March.
The prosecution did not oppose the request to have the accused released on cash bail awaiting the hearing of the case.
The three were released on a Sh300,000 cash bail.
The case will be heard on April 12,2022.
