NAIROBI,Kenya, Feb, 17 – Appearing in court for the first time since his alleged abduction incident, communication strategist Dennis Itumbi appeared before chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi on the alleged fake assassination letter case involving Deputy President Willim Ruto.
Itumbi through his counsel Majimbo Georgiadis petitioned that the criminal proceedings be typed
“Your honour we intent to challenge the criminal proceedings before the highcourt and it has been a challenge to file the constitutional application without the typed proceedings ” said Majimbo.
In response to the application for typed proceedings the prosecution led by counsel Alice Mathangani indicated that the process of typing the criminal proceedings had taken too long due to high demand.
The court has meanwhile ordered Itumbi to file an application to the Milimani Court administration office requesting the process to be hastened.
Itumbi alongside his co-accused Samwel Gateri Wanjiru were in September 2021 were deemed to have a case to answer in the fake Deputy President William Ruto assassination letter.
The were charged with publishing a fake document contrary to the law.
Preliminary investigations later revealed that the letter was drafted at a cyber cafe in Lang’ata area, Nairobi county.
Investigating agencies had sought the assistance of the USA’s Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
It was alleged that he plot to assassinate the DP was hatched at a city hotel.
“The two, on or before June 20, 2019, published a letter dated May 30, 2019, with intent to cause anxiety to the general public,” read a part of the charge sheet.
The matter will be mentioned on March,10, 2022.
