KIAMBU,Kenya, Feb, 14 – Detectives based at the Thika Police Station have arrested two people masquerading as lawyers during a joint crackdown within Thika town with officers from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
The Thika LSK chapter had received several complaints from members of the public who had fallen victim to the alleged legal practitioners who have been rendering legal services without the requisite qualifications.
The two suspects had leased an office space within Thika town that was branded to appear as a legal office.
“Our office had received complaints from a number of people who paid money but failed to get the requisite services and as a result we informed DCI and the launched the operation,” said LSK Thika chapter Chairman Daniel Gachau.
Several suspects however fled the scene after receiving world of the impending operation by the DCI.
“We have receive complaints from members of the public and even lawyers. Clients say that they have paid for certain services but no work was done….in fact when we managed to track down one of the fake lawyers they admitted they were not real lawyers,” he said.
“We want members off the public to ask for certain documentations from lawyers in order to determine and prove that they are indeed real lawyers,”
Earlier this week three other suspected fake lawyers were nabbed by detectives in Gatundu.
All the suspects are expected to be arraigned.
The joint operation is expected to be conducted within the sub county in the coming weeks.
