NAIROBI,Kenya, Mar, 11 – 16 bodaboda operators accused of sexually assaulting a female motorist along Parklands area in Nairobi county will now be detained for 15 days after Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe granted an application filed by the Directorate Of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct further investigations.
Shikwe said that the application was merited directing the suspects to be detained at the Gigiri police station.
“Police should be accorded the necessary support to conclude investigations into this matter to charge those they feel are the culprits herein. It may well be that a good number of the 16 suspects were not culpable and may be exonerated by the police investigators or through the court trial. l am satisfied that the application is merited,” ruled the magistrate.
Investigating officers had initially sought 20 days to detain the suspects.
According to court documents, they were also accused of stealing the victim’s mobile phone worth Sh130,000.
According to court documents, the accused committed the despicable act on March,4,2022 at Barabara Tano along Professor Wangari Mathai road in Nairobi County.
The suspects have since been identified as: James Mutinda Muema,Samuel Wafula Muswahili,Charles Omondi Were,Japheth Bosire Obano,Hassan Farah Forah,Wanjuki Lincon Kinyanjuhi,Joseph Ngugi Mburu,LensonFundi Njuriri,Harrison Maina Irungu,Benjamin Ngure Githinji,Ignatius Shitekha Mufwolobo,Martin Kamau Maina,Shadrack Ambia Luyeku,Shadrack Kioko Nyamai,Cliff Gikobi Oyaro and Joseph Kibui Mukambi.
The victim said that she was driving along the said area and was involved in a road accident with a bodaboda rider,read police report.
She further told police at Parklands police station that while still inside her motor vehicle the group of bodaboda riders started assaulting her sexually and and the stole her mobile phone worth Sh130,000.
