NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 15- Former National Assembly leader of Majority Aden Duale says he will be spilling the beans on how President Uhuru Kenyatta worked to undermine his Deputy, William Ruto during his second and final term.
The revelation will be made in a new book he is penning down, Duale said during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates convention on Tuesday.
He revealed details of a 45-minute talk he held with the President, just before he was removed as the Leader of Majority in a purge that targeted leaders allied to DP Ruto.
“You have delivered for me as my first majority leader but the problem is that you are a friend to William Ruto and I have completed the purge of Ruto’s friends like Kihika and Murkomen but I have been told the head of the snake is still in my Parliament,” the Garissa Township legislator said.
Dozens of leaders became the victim of the purge, which only widened the rift between the once political buddies, the President, and his Deputy.
Given an option to “betray” the Deputy President and to lose his position as the first Leader of Majority, Duale said he chose to be rescued from his responsibilities.
“I was a best friend to Uhuru and Ruto and because I didn’t want to be involved in politics of deceit and backstabbing. I shook his hand and walked to the parliamentary group,” he said.
“The President for the first time in that morning, we had a 45-minute talk, man to man. He told me there is something called spilt loyalty…you have delivered your duty as the first Majority Leader but the problem is, you are a friend of William Ruto.”
He added, “I told him (the President) that I am a man of God and I have walked a long journey with William Ruto, that I am ready to take a walk from your administration, with the coveted constitutional office, than me being involved in your politics of deceit, betrayal, and backstabbing.”
If elected President, he urged DP Ruto to protect his Deputy.
“Don’t allow brokers, drunkards, and thugs to undermine and humiliate both the character and the person of the future Deputy President. You must stop that,” he said.
The vocal legislator also lashed at KANU party leader Gideon Moi, saying he has no more authority to ‘lecture’ Kenyans on the war against corruption.
“It is very sad to hear Gideon Moi, who in my opinion is a product of corruption from the day he was born, trying to give us a lecture on how to fight corruption,” he said.
The KANU leader has proposed hanging those found corrupt, but Duale said “he will be the first to be hanged.”
