NAIROBI,Kenya, Mar, 29 – Faith Ondisa was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts where she stood accused of allegedly stealing Sh459,640 (USD 4,000) from her employer in Lavington Nairobi county.
According to preliminary reports, the accused is said to have upon her employer’s absence from her home proceeded to her bedroom and stole the money from her wardrobe where it was kept.
The incident is said to have occurred on March ,22,2022.
The victim, Mary Mwatika, is said to have returned home only to find her househelp was missing, upon further inquiry from the security officer manning the gate, she was told that the accused had left with a suitcase claiming to be rushing to a repairman to fix it.
Appearing before resident magistrate William Tulel of Kibera law courts, the accused however plead temporary insanity saying that she had been bewitched by her pastor and that she was not herself when she committed the theft.
She claims to have be under his spell and that he took the money to the ‘con pastor’.
“I met the pastor on my way from the hospital and he must have told me to do what i did,” she said.
She further says that the pastor upon receiving the money told her to walk backwards never to look back as she also surrendered her mobile phone and that her fortunes and those of her family would change for the better.
it was only later the she realized she had been duped.
The victim, Mwatika, however reported the matter to police and she was arrested in Donholm area.
She admitted to stealing the money and sought leniency from the court saying that she would pay the money in installments. Her plea was denied.
Tulle ordered her to pay the cash or face a two year jail sentence.
