NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 10- Speaker Justin Muturi on Saturday joined the Kenya Kwanza alliance, which is led by Deputy President William Ruto.
Other leaders within the alliance include Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.
Muturi is seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta on a Democratic Party ticket.
The Speaker also signed a coalition agreement with the three leaders.
“I am joining Kenya Kwanza because I believe in it,” Muturi said, “in fact, I was the pioneer of the name Kenya Kwanza. We sympathize with our friends who are experiencing political constipation.”
Political pundits say the move is a big boost to DP Ruto’s bid to maintain his grip in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.
Muturi hails from the Mt Kenya region.
“We are going to shame the deep state and dark forces,” the Deputy President said, “To our competitors, please try and cobble together a plan and an agenda to sell to the people.”
“We will keep working together, expanding our political space, for a better Kenya,” Ruto said.
