NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 21- Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua says he is ‘quite concerned’ after he was left out of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance council and committees within it.
In a Tweet on Thursday, the day President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired the first Azmio Council meeting at KICC, Mutua said he worried whether that was a sign of things to come “when we win elections.”
None of the Mutua-led Maendeleo Chap Chap leaders was named to the Council or other available positions within the coalition.
President Kenyatta was gazetted as the Chairman of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Council.
In the gazette notice dated April 13, 2022, Azimio presidential flagbearer and ODM leader Raila Odinga was named as the Party leader and Council member.
Those also listed as Council members include Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, KANU chairman Gideon Moi, NARC leader, Charity Ngilu, DAP-K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi, Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege among others.
Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has been listed as the Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the coalition party.
Those in the National Coalition Executive Council (NCEC) include Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe and Azimio Executive Director Raphael Tuju.
The Azimio-OK was officially registered as a coalition on April 13, 2022.
Mutua has since expressed interest in becoming Raila Odinga’s running mate in the August 9 polls.
An advisory panel will recommend possible running mates for the nomination of the position by Azimio presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga.
A section of leaders have recommended NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua for the position, but former Vice President and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka says he is the best suit for the running mate position.
Musyoka has been Odinga’s running mate in the previous two presidential elections.
