Raila, Ruto Have Until May 16 To Name Their Running Mates

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 26-Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance have until May 16 to name and present the names of their running mate to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

This was after the electoral body extended the deadline by two weeks. IEBC had set the deadline to April 28.

This applies to Governors and the running mates.

“The date for submission of aspirants lists for presidential candidates and deputies, as well as gubernatorial candidates and deputies, will be on 16th of May next month,” IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati said.

Chebukati however said that the names for aspirants for Members of National Assembly, Woman Representative, Senate, and Members of County Assembly will still be submitted on Thursday, April 28, 2022.

“Independent candidates who are vying as presidential Candidates and Governor candidates will also submit their names on May 16. The other dates remain the same, as you submit the names the Commission reminds you to comply with the two-thirds gender rule,” Chebukati noted.
