NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 27 – Candidates currently in grade six and now transitioning to junior secondary school will sit for their assessment in November alongside Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates.
Form four candidates will also sit for their exams between November and December 2022.
Ahead of the busy exam season, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has begun the process of registering candidates nationwide for the various exams.
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha, the exercise will officially start on April 27 and close on May 14, 2022.
“The Examinations to be registered are Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, and KCSE Qualifying Test. The registration will be done online by the respective Head Teachers,” said the CS.
Magoha further said that the offline registration of candidates will not take place. He has asked those involved in the exercise to ensure they provide the correct information about learners with special needs during the registration and verification of the registration of candidates.
The CS said the involvement of parents and guardians during the verification of KPSEA and KCPE candidates was important, noting that schools should capture the names of the candidates correctly as they will be used in other examinations.
“Sub County Directors of Education should ensure accuracy of the correct name of the candidate as per the birth certificate; gender; year of birth; citizenship; subjects entered,”
Meanwhile, candidates seeking to be transferred to a different school will also not be accepted once the exercise is complete.
“Special cases related to illness and insecurity will be handled appropriately once brought to the attention of KNEC through the SCDE,” said Magoha.
“Please take it as your responsibility to find out whether your child has been registered for these exams. Sometimes, it is very challenging, when parents are calling a day before the exams to say, I have just discovered that my child is not registered for the exams,” said KNEC chief executive officer Dr. David Njeng’ere.
At the same time, Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr, Julius Jwan has warned schools against demanding money for the registration exercise.
“Nobody should charge any learner whether from private or public schools any money for registration of three exams, grade 6, standard 8 and form 4… so, nobody should make a mistake of telling a parent to bring money for that registration,” he said.
According to KNEC, candidates sitting for their KCPE exam will do so from November 28 to December 1, 2022.
Candidates sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam will do so from December 1 to 23, 2022.
