NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 27- Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has set up a team of 7, that will vet those seeking to be his running mate.
They include Bishop Peter Njenga, Archbishop Zachaos Okoth, Enoch Wambua, and Michael Orwa.
Other members are Noah Wekesa, Sheikh Khalifa and Beatrice Moen.
The team Secretary shall be Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elizabeth Meyo.
The team was announced by Azimio Secretary-General Junet Mohammed, who is also a member of parliament.
“I don’t want to speculate on behalf of the team, but they will have their sitting and come with the way of identifying at candidates. They will come up with the methodology they want to use,” said Mohammed.
“You know there are candidates who are running mates for the media, but this committee will tell us who is the candidate for the media and who is the candidate for the people. We cannot do this exercise in futility.”
Among those likely to be vetted by the committee include former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka- who has been Odinga’s running mate two times.
Musyoka has warned that if he is not picked, Odinga will not win.
The Wiper leader is believed to have a command of the majority of 2 million Ukambani region votes.
Other favorites for the position include NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua- who was with Odinga in the US.
Karua has been supported by a section of women leaders within the Azimio coalition.
NARC party leader Charity Ngilu, who is also a one-term governor for Kitui, is also on the list.
Others include Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege, and former legislator Peter Kenneth.
