TAITA TAVETA, Kenya, May, 8 – Presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi is championing an economic agenda ahead of the August 9, 2022 elections saying that the country needs to get back on track amidst a ballooning debt that could cripple the country’s way of life.
Wanjigi hit the campaign trail with several delegates of his Safina party to Voi, Taita Taveta county. They also met grassroots leaders in the county.
“We are collapsing economically in every sphere of our economic existence and the problems coming ahead of us are even more grave,” said Wanjigi.
According to Wanjigi, the country has added Sh175B to its debt in the last six months alone. This is translated to mean, that every Kenyan has a debt of slightly over Sh3,000 accrued between November 2021 and April 2022.
“It is important to understand the gravity of one shilling loss of exchange against the dollar is equivalent to Sh35 billion increase in debt.’ he said.
Through his presidential campaign team, the presidential hopeful says that he has devised several strategies to ‘save’ Kenya from the ballooning debt.
The Safina party has been on a popularization tour nationwide ahead of the national polls.
Wanjigi meanwhile held several meetings with youth from the country saying that his government will bring them to the fold as they strive towards boosting their economic fortunes.
“Young people will be the deciding factor in the general election,”
He further said that Kenyans must ‘vote out’ Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, insisting that the duo is equally responsible for the suffering endured by Kenyans today.
Wanjigi has meanwhile called on politicians seeking various elective posts to campaign on real issues citing the demand for answers, particularly for 5.4 million educated Kenyans that are still jobless.
“Let us debate issues of this nation, issues of the economy, issues of the lives of every single one of us not few of us – our economic lives, I want us to start talking about solutions not politics of division’ he said.
