KIAMBU, Kenya, May, 17 – Detectives in Limuru, Kiambu county are probing an alleged suicide incident where a female police officer is said to have taken her own life.
According to preliminary reports, Constable Edith Nyawira who is assigned to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit committed the unthinkable with investigations remaining inconclusive at this point in time as to why she ended her life.
The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday afternoon. According to her immediate boss, she was scheduled to provide security services at a local bank.
Sleuths who secured the crime scene recovered three spent cartridges which will be subjected to ballistic tests. Also recovered at the scene were two notes, addressed to the deceased’s sister and boyfriend. The notes will be subjected to an authentication exercise to determine whether it was written by the deceased officer.
Meanwhile, a postmortem examination will be conducted in the coming days amidst further investigations.
Concerns continue to mount within the national police service over increased cases of police deaths. Experts have cited mental health issues as some of the reasons affecting officers while on the job.
