NMS Says Green Park Bus Terminal To Commence Operations In Phases Starting May 24

NAIROBI, Kenya, May, 18 – The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has put into place a traffic movement plan which will apply to all Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) coming to the city from the South and South-West of Nairobi as plans to start using the Green Park bus terminal begin.

According to a statement, the operations will commence in phases.

“Nairobi Metropolitan Services wishes to inform Public Service Vehicle (PSVs) operators and the general public that the Green Park Bus Terminal will commence operations in phase as follows,” read a statement.

All PSVs plying Ngong’ road and Argwings Kodhek road will pick and drop passengers at the Green Park Bus Terminal starting May 24, 2022. Meanwhile, All PSVs plying Lang’ata road will pick up and drop passengers at the Green Park Bus Terminal starting May 27, 2022.

The Green Park Terminal (GPT) is part of the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN) which is a multi-agency project that seeks to ensure a reliable and efficient transport system in the city.

The terminal aims to decongest CBD, reduce travel time, improve commuter experiences and encourage the use of public transport as a preference for private transport.

The ongoing NIUPLAN project includes relocating the railway terminus to Green Park, establishing of Park Roads Terminus adjacent to Desai Service Road, the addition of pedestrian walkways and roads, and constructing additional Non-Motorized Transport lanes.

All PSVs accessing the CBD through Langata Road shall turn left and join Raila Odinga way up to the City mortuary roundabout, join Ngong Road into Haile Selassie Avenue near NHIF and deploy extreme left along the entry lane into GPT.

All other traffic vehicles that do not fit the definition of PSV shall continue to use their preferred routes.

Non-Motorized Transport Corridors have been constructed for safe pedestrian movement into and out of the terminal through Haile Selassie Roundabout, Parliament Road, Intercontinental, and General Post Office Roundabout according to NMS.

All PSVs accessing the CBD through Langata Road can also use Nyayo Stadium and pass through Uhuru Highway all the way to Bunyala Road where the vehicles will access the Terminal through Lower Hill Road.

NMS Deputy Director Road, Transport, and Public Works Martin Eshiwani stated that the Nairobi Commuter Rail Buses will provide linkage services from the Green Park Terminal, along with and outside CBD.

“The bus will pick people from the terminal to town and also extend its services to the Machakos area,” added Eshiwani.

He explained that some buses have the capacity of carrying 66 passengers while others can accommodate up to 100 people
