NAIROBI, Kenya, May 25- The court on Monday granted detectives 14 days to conclude investigations on a suspect accused to have been behind the wheel of a runaway vehicle, after the broad daylight shooting of a man along Mirema drive in Nairobi.
A miscellaneous application filed in Milimani Law Courts Nairobi by the Investigating Officer Kapario Lekakeny based at DCI headquarters claims that Dennis Karani was the driver of the vehicle that was used at the murder scene of Samuel Mugo Muvota.
Karani was detained after he surrendered at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu road.
He has since refuted the claims, saying he was in Nakuru on the day Muvota was shot dead.
The officer told Court that he needed the 14 days to enable detectives to recover the murder weapon which is suspected to be in possession of the driver.
He is set to travel to Mombasa, Nakuru and Kiambu in pursuit of the killer weapon.
“I implore the court to take notice of the clip going viral on social media where one man was captured by CCTV footage. For clearance of doubt the crime was committed by more than two people as it is seen that the person who committed the murder fled to the car that was parked,” the court was told.
The suspect did not object to the application, saying he was ready for the investigations to be carried out.
Karani appeared before Milimani senior resident magistrate Caroline Muthoni.
He will be detained at the Kasarani police station. The case will be mentioned on June 8.
