GARISSA, Kenya, Jun, 4 – A multi-agency security team in Garissa county arrested four people suspected to have been trafficking and selling bhang worth an estimated Sh413,000.
According to preliminary reports, the four, consisting of two men and two women were arrested during a sting operation in Windsor area on Friday evening following a tip-off from members of the public.
An assessment by police observed that the confiscated bhang was packaged in 676 sachets,187 roles,1 stone, and other styles to conceal them from authorities.
Area county commissioner Boaz Cherutich who is the chairman of the county security committee said the four will be arraigned on Monday amidst investigations.
Preliminary reports further revealed that the drugs had been smuggled into the country from Ethiopia.
The four had expected to commence distribution within Garissa then for sale.
“We know that we still have a few more cartels in our midst who are still working with drug dealers in selling and distributing the drugs to target our Garissa market and these are the individuals that we are putting on notice that the governing will firmly deal with them,”said Cherutich.
Police are now expected to work with organizations such as NACADA in a bid to address the dangers the drugs pose to members of the community.
