NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun, 7 – Antony Echesa, an ex Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts and charged with Fraud and impersonation.
The Ex-officer was accused of allegedly conning two traders of Sh89,380 on diverse dates after promising them that he would facilitate their kin’s recruitment to the armed forces.
According to court documents, Echesa was charged with obtaining Sh61, 000 from Mutesa Nzioka on diverse dates between April 5 and 27,2022.
Another victim duped by Echesa was businessman Cosmas Musyoki , who was duped of Sh28,380 in Kawangware, Nairobi on diverse dates between April 14th and 24,2022.
The court was told that the accused introduced himself as a KDF soldier and met the victims while claiming to want to purchase a sofa set from his Kawangware workshop.
Appearing before resident magistrate Jackline Onjwang, It is at this point that he is further said to have claimed to be in a position to help the victims after striking a rapport with them.
The accused received ‘motivation’ money in order to allegedly facilitate their kin’s recruitment to the service via M-pesa.
Echesa was released on a Sh100,000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh150, 000.
The case will be mentioned in June 21 before the hearing date is determined.
