Police Officer Arrested After Teargas Canister Exploded At Karua’s Event In Kisii 

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 30- A police officer has been arrested after the Gusii stadium teargas canister incident at the VIP podium, during an event attended by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential running mate Martha Karua.

Also present during the incident was Ida Odinga, who is the wife to Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

 One person is said to have sustained injuries during the incident.

The incident happened moments after Kisii Governor James Ongwae finished his speech and was about to invite Karua.

Security officers moved in with speed to evacuate Karua and other dignitaries.

National Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said the officer was arrested to help “with further investigations.”

It is not yet clear whether the incident was accidental or not.
