NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 1- Security officers in the country will have their monthly income and allowances reviewed upward in the first a hundred days if Kenya Kwanza Alliance forms the next government, presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua has said.
Speaking on Thursday evening during the launch of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto at Kasarani stadium, the presidential running mate said this will be one of the ways to boost their morale.
“We want to ensure we have a police service that’s friendly to the people,” he said.
Gachagua explained that the Kenya Kwanza government will be keen on ensuring police are not politically used to harass voices of dissent, and instead, “they protect Kenyans’ lives and property.”
To ensure independence, he said the Kenya Kwanza government will ensure the police have an independent budget as required by law.
This, he said will curb attempts by the executive to interfere with the police independence in their service to Kenyans.
The Kenya Kwanza team led by their presidential candidate William Ruto has also committed to ensuring drastic reforms within the entire criminal justice system.
To enhance Judicial independence, the team says it will operationalize the Judiciary fund to give a third of the government financial autonomy.
