    Looming Changes As More Than 100 Senior Police Officers Promoted

    NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 4- Over 100 senior police officers have been promoted, in changes announced by the National Police Service.

    The National Police Service Commission approved their promotions, paving way for major changes ahead of the August 9 elections.

    NPSC approved the promotions of more than 10 senior officers to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector of Police (SIAIG) and 40 to Assistant Inspector of Police (AIG).

    The commission further ratified the promotion of more than 60 to the Commissioner of Police (CP). Others were elevated to Senior Superintendent of Police.

    This is bound to trigger changes across the ranks.

    The New Nakuru police boss Peter Mwanzo was promoted to the rank of a Commissioner of Police, replacing Beatrice Kiraguri.

    Mwanzo was previously serving as the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC).

    Shahidi News has established that the promotions were effected on June 26.

    Officers across the units of the NPS were affected by the promotions.

    For example, some 10 senior officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were promoted to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

    James Mugera, who has been acting as the Nairobi Regional Police boss was elevated to AIG and confirmed as the region’s police chief as it was the case for Tom Odero (Rift Valley), George Seda (North Eastern) and Manase Musyoka (Central).

    The regions are seen as hot spots ahead of the August polls according to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

    Other promoted officers include Rose Kuraru and Jacinta Muthoni (SAIG) while Police Spokesman Bruno Shioso, DCI Head of Crime Intelligence and Research Bureau (CRIB)
    Paul Mumo, Coast Regional DCI head Bernard Barasa, DCI Head of Railways Simoni Mwangi Wanderi, Head of ballistics at the DCI Johnstone Mwongera and deputy commandant at police Airwing Thomas Kabute were promoted to the rank of AIG.

    Nairobi Area DCI boss Paul Wachira, his Rift Valley counterpart Isaac Meeme and Amos Omuga of DCI Training school were upgraded to AIG.

    Lazarus Opicho of Judicial Police Unit, Head of Reforms at DCI Eliud Langat, Deputy Director of Forensics Margaret Karanja and Ziporah Mboroki of DCI Academy were also promoted to the rank of AIG.

    Others who have been promoted to Commissioners of Police are Head of the Special Services Unit Pius Gitari, Narok heed of DCI Mwenda Ethaiba, Lang’ata’s Samuel Kobina, Gigiri’s Peter Kiboro, Starehe OCPD Julius Kiragu, Gigiri’s Alice Kimeli, Lang’ata’s Benjamin Mwanthi who has already been moved to Inspector General’s office to personnel office and Central’s David Mburukua.

    Those promoted to the rank of SSP include Deputy Head of Operations at DCI headquarters Samuel Bett, Head of Fichua Uhalifu David Chebii, DCI George Kinoti’s Personal Assistant Lawrence Some and David Wafula of Child Protection Unit, head of communications at DIG’s office Jared Ojuok.
