MOMBASA,Kenya, Jul, 21 – In a move aimed at wiping out criminal gangs from Mombasa city, at least seven suspects believed to be members of a notorious criminal gang have been arrested. The seven suspects were arrested by detectives who made an impromptu ambush at their hideout within Bamburi area in Ksauni.
The operation lead to a huge recovery of a cache of weapons among them knives, crude weapons and at least 44 mobile phones which police believe were stolen from their victims.
The seven include two middle aged women and five boys aged 25 years and below.
Police believe the group is one among many illegal gangs within mombasa responsible for terrorising locals and causing mayhem.
In previous incidences, such gangs have been accused to have killed some of their victims leaving a majority with life threatening injuries.
Their arrest comes barely 24 hours afterInterior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i toured Mombasa county and promised to heighten security operations. The cs said there is intelligent information linking such criminal gangs which have been formed to cause havoc during the forthcoming election.
