NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 5- Detectives have commenced investigations after suspected burglars broke into the home of the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji in Riverside drive, Nairobi county.
According to preliminary investigations, the thieves stole electronics and other items.
The ODPP in a Twitter post, however, clarified the nature of the robbery incident saying that it occurred at his residence and not his office.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening.
“The DPP would like to clarify that there was a robbery at his residence, not his office, & investigations are ongoing. The ODPP, as a Prosecuting Authority, doesn’t collect or store evidence of any nature. Members of the public & media are urged not to politicize this incident,” read a tweet from the ODPP.
“I don’t want to make sideline comments on a matter as sensitive as that has happened as investigations are ongoing,” said interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i amid investigations.
Surprisingly armed police officers guarding his residence are said to have not heard any break-in. Haji’s son is said to have noticed the missing item though he too did not hear the burglars breaking into the home.
Nairobi Regional police commander James Mugera confirmed the incident saying staff at the residence are being questioned amid investigations and a manhunt for the suspects.
