KIRINYAGA, Kenya, Aug 9- Martha Karua, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential running mate has urged Kenyans to come out in large numbers, and vote.
Karua was among the first Kenyans to cast her vote in her rural area in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.
Addressing journalists after the exercise, Karua said the Tuesday vote was important in determining the future of Kenya.
“Kindly get out and vote,” she said.
Voting kicked off at 6 am, and the exercise is expected to end at 5 pm.
“I have voted. You can see the ink. Kindly get out and vote. It is our day today to determine the direction our country takes. Make your voice heard,” Karua said.
“In terms of voting it is not different but in terms of possibility, it is very different. There is a real possibility.”
Voting is expected to be held in all the 46,229 polling stations across the country.
Others who have since voted include Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua.
Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga will cast his vote at 10 am.
