NYERI, Kenya, Aug 9- Kenya Kwanza Presidential Running mate says the Tuesday voting was seamless while urging Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and participate in the exercise.
Similar calls have been made by other leaders who have since cast their votes.
Gachagua voted in Mathira, Nyeri County while in the company of his family members.
“Finally the day is here. This is a defining moment for the people of Kenya,” he told journalists after voting.
“I am very excited by the high turnout of voters. We are very happy and impressed by the levels of preparedness of IEBC.”
He expressed optimism that the election will be above board.
“It is impossible, what I have observed, to introduce dead voters in this election,” Gachagua said.
He hailed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for their “level of preparedness. I am certain the will of the people will prevail.”
Some 22.1 million voters are expected to participate in the election.
Gachagua urged residents of his region, Mount Kenya, to come out in large numbers, even if they feel disappointed by the current regime.
“You still have another chance of voting in another government,” he said.
