TRANS NZOIA, Kenya, Aug, 12 – What was expected to be a fierce battle between Democratic Action Party of Kenya Candidate George Natembeya and FORD-Kenya’s Chris Wamalwa saw the former emerge victorious in what was also a ‘political statement,’ between Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya Alliance and Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Trans Nzoia IEBC Election Manager John Cox Lorionokou officially announced Natembya as the victor in the gubernatorial contest.
Trans Nzoia which has 398,981 registered voters only saw 249,220 cast their ballots.
Natembeya scooped 158,919 votes against Wamalwa’s 79,020.
3,594 votes were rejected.
“It is with profound humility that I accept the overwhelming support that I have been shown by the residents of Transnzoia- bestowing me with privileges to be their governor,” he said.
He meanwhile said that he was going to work with his rivals in a bid to boost development in the county.
“To my competitor, I wish to request you we join hands to transform Transnzoia, since this victory belongs to Transnzoia residents therefore it will be a great honor as leaders to shelve our competitive aspects and focus to bring change.”
Wamalwa on his Twitter page conceded defeat and congratulated Natembeya on his victory.
“The Elections are now over & the results are out. I have not been successful in my quest to be the second Governor of our great County. I thank the Almighty God, and all my supporters, from both far and near, for their unyielding support. Receive my eternal gratitude,” said Wamalwa.
“I thank the people of Kimini for giving me the opportunity to be their MP for two terms. I thank my Party- Ford Kenya for it’s support. My heartfelt gratitude to the party supporters and volunteers who have worked so hard in this campaign
