    Nyali MP Mohammed Ali Retains His Seat With Landslide Victory

    MOMBASA, Kenya, Aug, 12 – Nyali MP Mohamed Ali (UDA) has retained his seat after garnering 32,933 votes.

    The former investigative journalist beat seven other candidates with his closet rival, Said Abdallah of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) getting 18,642 votes.

    Nyali constituency returning officer, John Ole Taiswa, declared the results at National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) constituency tallying centre.

    Ole Taiswa issued the winning certificate to the MP-elect before inviting him to address the gathering in the tallying centre.

    “I declare Mohamed Ali as duly elected member of national assembly Nyali constituency,” announced Ole Taiswa.

    Businessman Eric Gitonga Stanley who contested the seat as an independent candidate came third with 1,135 votes.

    He was followed by Millicent Atieno Odhiambo of Wiper, who got 904 votes, Jubilee’s Yasir Noor Mohamed secured 889 votes.

    Another independent candidate, Japheth Marine Otieno secured 601 votes, Edward Mark Osewe of Pamoja Africa Alliance got 124 votes.

    Kadu Asili’s Ferdinand Katana had 264 votes and a third independent candidate, Joshua Otieno Ndere, garnered 166 votes.

    In his acceptance speech, Ali thanked Nyali electorate for granting him another opportunity to serve them in the national assembly.

    The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate thanked security agencies for providing elaborate security measures to facilitate free, fair, peaceful and credible polls.

    Ali extended an olive branch to his opponents urging them to join him to advance development in Nyali.

    “I am very delighted for the opportunity given to me by the great people of Nyali to serve them once more in the national assembly. I will use this opportunity to continue from where I had left,” he added.

    Present at the Nyali constituency tallying included former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and UDA Mombasa senatorial aspirant candidate, Hamis Mwaguya.
