NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug, 12 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially confirmed Tim Wanyonyi as the Westlands Member of Parliament.
Wanyonyi who ran on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket garnered 58,400 votes.
His closest competitor, lawyer and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Nelson Havi came in second after garnering 19,500 votes.
Out of the Constituency’s 160,739 voters, only 83,321 voters turned out to vote in this election. This is about 52.8 percent of voters registered in the area.
Wanyonyi thrashed 10 other candidates to reclaim his seat despite initially campaigning to run for Nairobi governor.
“The only thing I believe we must do as a country is to find a way to split this voting process because six elections in one day is too much. We can have presidential and parliamentary and county elections separately. That would be more efficient,” said Wanyonyi.
Havi had earlier this week conceded defeat while congratulating Wanyonyi.
