ELGEYO MARAKWET, Kenya, Aug, 13 – Wisley Rotich the governor-elect Elgeyo Marakwet County has pledged to work with other leaders and the national government to ensure there is peace in the Kerio Valley.
Speaking after he received his certificate from the County IEBC Returning Officer Elgeyo Marakwet, Charles Mutai, on Friday, Rotich said he will reach out to other governors in the region under the North Rift Economic Block (NOREB) to address the many challenges affecting peace in the Valley.
Rotich who has been the deputy governor said he is aware of the enormous duty ahead but promised the residents that he was up to the task.
“However I cannot do this alone and that is why I am calling for unity of purpose from all elected members so that we can transform the lives of our people,” he said.
The governor-elect who was vying on a UDA ticket emerged victorious after garnering 147,706 votes defeating his opponent Anthony Chelimo, an independent candidate, who polled 11,759 votes.
Others who vied for the gubernatorial seat were Moses Changwony (Independent) who got 1,763 votes while Tabitha Seii vying on an ODM ticket got 1,094 votes.
In the senatorial race, Kipchumba Murkomen of UDA party emerged victorious for the third time consecutively after getting 141,091 votes defeating the outgoing governor Eng. Alex Tolgos who got 20,684 votes, Kiprop Marimoi Independent who got 2,382 votes, Kipkosgei Kipruto Independent 1,043 and Peter Keino getting 840 votes.
Caroline Ng’elechei, an Independent candidate won the highly contested Women Rep. race with 104,928 votes edging out Jane Chebaibai of UDA who managed 58,928 votes and Rose Kipchumba Independent who got 1,779 votes.
