NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 14 – Edwin Sifuna of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is the new Senator of Nairobi after winning the Tuesday election.
The ODM Secretary General was declared the winner on Sunday morning.
According to the results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Sifuna garnered 716,651 votes, beating his main competitor, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
Wanjiru got 524,091 votes.
Sifuna thanked the people of Nairobi for voting for him while pledging to unite the city.
He also called on his competitors to unite and work with him to spur change and development in the city.
“I want to thank all of you, the people of Nairobi, for honouring me with this position and I want to assure you that you know my capacity, my work and my ability. I will serve you diligently every day that I wake up, I will not fail you,” he said.
