NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14- Kenya Kwanza Presidential Candidate William Ruto made his first appearance on Sunday when he attended a church service at his official residence in Karen.
He was in the company of his wife Rachael, presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua and his wife Dorcas.
Other Kenya Kwanza leaders including outgoing Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua were present.
The Deputy President hailed the more than 14 million Kenyans who participated in the August 9 elections, saying they had participated in an exercise to decide their future.
Further, DP Ruto urged Kenyans to remain calm, as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) continues tallying votes.
“Let us remain patient with the processes that are ongoing and pray for IEBC,” he said.
“We have gone through this process peacefully and it is my prayer that we end it, peacefully. We pray to God that the end is better than we started. We want to patiently and peacefully for the next process.”
IEBC has until Tuesday to announce Kenya’s fifth President- for the next five years.
Preliminary results from IEBC show it is a tight race between Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred successor, the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The Deputy President also celebrated all those who were elected.
His party the United Democratic Alliance has the majority of Members of Parliament elected, including more women Governors.
“Yes we have voted, but it is God who chooses,” he said.
The church service had also been attended by the Deputy President’s maternal mother and other close family friends.
