NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Saturday discussed Kenya’s election with President Uhuru Kenyatta, and why it is important for the continent.
Other than Kenya being the wealthiest nation in East Africa, it is also politically stable in a volatile region and home to the United Nations offices.
Secretary Blinken further called on Kenyans to remain calm, as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) tallied the votes.
IEBC is legally mandated to verify and tally the votes within 7 days, which lapses on Tuesday.
Discussed with @StateHouseKenya President Uhuru Kenyatta my recent trip to Africa and the importance of Kenya’s elections as a model for the continent. We encourage peace and patience as the vote tallying continues from the August 9 elections.
