NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 14- Several human rights organizations led by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) have asked politicians to desist from interfering with the operations of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), as the tallying of presidential votes continues.

This is after the country witnessed two days of drama at the national tallying center, as politicians largely from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance and their counterparts engage in a war of words, largely fueled by suspicion.

“Let the IEBC do its work,” KHRC Executive Director Davis Malombe said.

He was flanked by other local human rights organizations including Gladwell Otieno from the Angaza movement.

An IEBC clerk was on Sunday evening manhandled and a gadget was stolen from him during a dramatic incident.

Now, human rights organizations have asked politicians to allow the IEBC to execute its mandate.

The electoral body has until Tuesday to announce Kenya’s fifth President, paving way for transition plans.

Both Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate William Ruto and Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance have urged their supporters to remain calm, as the tallying exercise continue.
