    EALA MP Jematia Clinches Baringo Woman Rep Seat

    BARINGO, Kenya, Aug, 14 – Florence Jematia of UDA party beat four other candidates to emerge winner in the Baringo woman representative contest at the just concluded 2022 general elections.

    Jematia who is East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP garnered 144, 039 votes to clinch the seat being occupied by KANU’s Gladwell Cheruiyot who settled in second place with 40,302 votes while Rebecca Lomong of Kenya Union Party (KUP) managed 25,159 votes.

    Sarah Jepkorir of Chama cha Mashinani (CCM) came fourth with 4, 605 votes while an Independent candidate Naomi Torono garnered 2,523 votes.

    Speaking at Kenya School of government (KSG), Baringo campus after being given her certificate by the Returning Officer, Jematiah who rose to prominence following her tough stand on insecurity affecting residents in the volatile areas of Baringo South and North constituencies said that her desire is to see that the welfare of the people is taken care of.

    The legislator pledged to team up with other elected leaders from the county to see to it that the insecurity challenge is amicably addressed.

    “We want to look keenly at this issue of insecurity so that we are able to walk on the same wavelength,” she said.

    The vocal politician who during her campaign period faced hard times after her competitors protested for what they termed as inciting communities against each other clarified that she will not be biased in her leadership.

    She noted that the county has great potential to attain the level of other counties if the insecurity challenge coupled with hunger situation in some parts of the county is fixed.

    “It is an assignment the people of Baringo have tasked us to address some of their pressing needs and I am confident that with the newly elected leaders, we shall deliver,” she said.

    At the same time, Jematia extended a hand of appreciation to her competitors saying that she will pick from where her predecessor has left and pledged to even make it better.
